On the Ponte Vecchio
The Ponte Vecchio was designed in 1345. It is the oldest and most popular of Florence´s bridges and managed to escape being blown up in WW11. There have always been workshops on the bridge. Now it is lined with gold and silver shops selling new and antique jewellery. A bust of Benvenuto Cellini, the most famous of all Florentine goldsmiths, was placed in the middle of the bridge in 1900.
