This mhuge area was laid out between 1757 and 1799. It was originally dedicated to Louis 15th. A statue of him was pulled down during the revolutionand a guillotine erected in its place where Louis 16th, his Queen Marie-Antoinette, Robespierre, St Just and thousands of otheres were killed. I told ya it was gruesome!
The Obelisk is from the temple at Luxor in Egypt and was erected in 1836.
