The Cathedral of Notre Dame stands on the site of a CHristia Basilica which in turn had been built of the site of a temple from the Roman era. Its construction was begun in 1163 and is said to hae been completed in 1345.In 1802 it was the scene for the coronation of Napoleon 1st by Pope Pius VII. It was restored between 1844 and 1864.
The Cathedral found fame in the 1920´s with the film of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The deformed Quasimodo found happiness in the sound of the six great bells. The bells still toll out every 15 minutes.
