The Conciergerie ...
.. is a massive building that runs along the quay close to Notre Dame. It dates from he 13th century. From the 16th century is was the State Prison. During the Revolution, thousands of prisoners condemned to death were kept there, including Marie-Antoinette.Her crucifix is still kept in her cell within the building.
Paris has a very gruesome history!
