Violin practice

Two practice violins in Bill's workshop. The first here comes with plug-in ear phones that allow the player to hear a full violin sound. It can be plugged into a speaker system too. The second is about 100 years old and makes little sound itself. A bit like the whipplestick!

Sheep's Head Drive

Sheep's Head peninsula is one of the most westerly points in Co Cork. To create the correct atmosphere while you look at these photos, open the freezer door and put a fan on at full speed aimed at your head! It was about 12 degrees with a howling wind and occasional thundery showers on Sunday morning! A typical summer's day in West Cork. Beautiful ... but tough!

Sheep's Head is a wild, mountainy place. High cliffs dropping sharply into the sea.

West Cork Music Festival

I went to Bantry at the weekend for the West Cork Music Festival. As always, there were stunning concerts each day. My favourite was the work for solo cello, six cellos and two waterphones on Saturday night in St Brendan's Church. Most amazing sounds!
Bantry House was at its best for the event - despite thunderous downpours!
